Hi there, this is my old site.
Here you can see various things that I got up to in the past few years. I am probably not going to update it any more, since it's getting pretty cluttered here now.
I might get a blogspot page if I find myself making enough little bits and bobs to display, but until then you should check my new site for updates and info.
HOT MAMA!
Celebrations..! I finally finished my new and improved showreel, and have made a nice posh new website to boot. Thought I'd just post up this happy little doodle to celebrate my glee. (It's not quite posh enough for the new posh site you see)

SUSHI SCULPTY COMMISSION
Just before Christmas I had a nice break from the 3D as I worked on this model for a few days. It is a prototype of a merchandise idea for some Japanese bands. I've uploaded the original designs as they were given to me, so you can evaulate my translation of 2D to 3D. Sculpted over three days, painted in one.
Wire armature, polymer clay sculpt with acrylic paint job.

COMPOSITION TEST
Well I got my (digital) Riding Hood model rigged and weighted finally, with her swing set-up tested and ready to go. This render/doodle composition was made to try and get an idea about the tree construction, and I guess to make sure the vision is on track. My Riding Hood model was initially made very quickly and low-poly. I kind of wish she was a better model now, but at the time I was just desparate to get animating. Hopefully some nice animation will make up for her anaemic appearance :-s
I'm looking forwards to making some neater characters soon, but in the meantime I need to model that tree and fence.

ANIMATION STORYBOARD CONCEPT/DOODLE
Here is a sneak peek of what is soon to come..!
...and in other news, today is the last day of me being 22 years of age. I'm going to get back to proper work now, to stifle the possibility of dying an untalented noob :-(

'HORROR GIRL' RUN CYCLE
With Ninja Flood Fight to be released somewhen, I've started work on the running cycle for a new character in a new game. Just so you know, she will start off with more clothes on than this...
In the meanwhile I have a load of 3D scenes to get back to now. Another update fairly imminant.

SPACE GUN
My most recent modelmaking work was just over a month ago, when I made this gun for a sci-fi TV pilot. Made in four days, it was hand-sculpted out of chemiwood. The silver ridge that runs along the bottom of the barrel was a 'found' item glued and filled in place. For a couple more photos click here.

'NINJA FLOODFIGHT' STAR GRAB ANIMATION
Here's a little animation from Ninja Floodfight, the 2D Flash game I've been making with Loz and John. This animation depicts the final in-game motion - the 'star grab' action. It got a bit tedious drawing the sprites towards the end, but I'm now looking forwards to doing some much more exciting flash animations..! More to come soon.

MODELMAKING IMAGE DUMP
Okay well I thought I'd finally post up some examples of my paid work. A couple of photos are a bit old but they're mostly from earlier this year. Everything was created with Duncan Mude at D-Forms in London (apart from this!).
'SPIRIT PIECE' HAND PROP
Here is a hand prop made for a tv fantasy series, soon to be aired on the BBC. I had to sculpt 12 different animals (representing the Chinese zodiac), and each one was cast into clear resin with pigment. The inside the of the moulds were dusted with powdered bronze to give the polished surface a radiant shimmer.
STAR BOARD-GAME
For the same project, a scene featuring an 'ancient board-game' was also required. The star-shaped board had holes which held the bamboo-stick playing pieces in place. I made the board from mahogany-veneered MDF, the pieces were painted bamboo.
For more photos of the animals and board-game click here!
GIANT CLIPS
Not long after I made the board-game, I made these over-sized bull clips for an art piece at a fashion show. I took my measurements from the original bull-clip (see in center). The clips were sculpted from chemiwood, and then coated in a layer of jesmonite for added strength.
SILK FLOWERS
For the same art piece as the clips, several large flowers were required. They were made from wire and silk...
...and looked rather nice when held up to the light. The silk was doubled layered and had an almost watery effect on the eyes.
GIANT CIGARETTE BUTTS
Last summer we made a whole load of giant cigarette butts for a television commercial. This was my first paid job after leaving uni! They were made by wrapping paper-card around cylindrical foam pieces, and then double-siding the printed paper around the outside. Loose bits of foam crumb were glued on top and spray-painted to create the ash. Some cigarettes had wire inside so they could be manipulated into various squished and bent states.
After being dirtied-down, they looked quite the part on the street.

ANIMANATEE MONSTER RUN TEST
John has given me a rig to play around with in Max, but before I attempted a run cycle with it I thought I would try out the motion first with some crude cell animation. This test was created in a very cool little program called Animanatee, a free homebrew application for the Nintendo DS. Actually since uploading this I've discovered its creator has updated the software loads, so I'm looking forwards to using the new program. Animating in bed is the best...
Anyway, you can see the actual 3D version here, along with some other DS animations that I thought I'd upload for the hell of it.

'NINJA FLOODFIGHT' SPLASHSCREEN SKETCH
I rarely devote time to cleaning up my pencil scribbles, but this one was tidied in Photoshop out of necessity, being that it was made as a splashscreen for Loz's nearly completed flashgame. I'm just waiting for John to colour it, then hopefully that means all the art might finally be completed... fingers crossed. I'll also post up some of my animation from it here soon, when I get round to it.

DEER COSTUME TEST FOOTAGE This is me wearing the deer costume that I made for one of my final year projects. Its purpose would be for a music video.
MEGA NAN ANIMATION TEST When designing "Mega Nan", I worried that she would be too bulky to animate, so I made this little cell animation to test out how she might look in motion.
STONE MOUSE STOP-MOTION This is just a fun little stop-motion test. It was filmed with a stills camera and put together in After Effects.
